SEIU Local 99 Executive Board Member Maggie Estell passed away on August 3, 2016. A lifelong union member, she poured her life and energy into our union, serving as both a member leader and, for a short time, as a staff member of Local 99.
Maggie also was a dedicated teacher’s assistant at Angeles Mesa Elementary School for 35 years. “I love being able to teach a child how to read,” she said of her work.

Even during periods of illness, she continued to serve at meetings and events, always ready to work for quality education and good school jobs.
Maggie represented T.A.s on the Local 99 Executive Board ever since T.A.s at the district first organized to form their union and win their first contract in 1991. Recently, she spoke out about the need for all school employees to earn at least $15 an hour and have access to affordable health insurance.
