We rallied again—this time with LACCD students and other supporters—and…

We finally receive a wage proposal from the District that is close to what we’ve been asking for.

After we rallied in front of District headquarters on November 19th, we had some real progress at the bargaining table. Our Bargaining Team met with District negotiators all day on November 24th to try to finalize a fair wage package. Our Team also asked the District to provide retro checks before the end of the year; unfortunately, there won’t be time for both parties to ratify an agreement and make all the changes to payroll. But things are moving quickly and we hope to finalize all proposals—including wages—in the coming days.

We received a revised wage proposal on December 1st from the District. This revised package was in response to concerns expressed by our Bargaining Team. Our Team is working tirelessly to wrap up the contract and will present all information as soon as tentative agreement on all our proposals has been reached and we have no loose ends.

We look forward to sharing good news soon!

We’re getting tired of saying it over and over and over again…

We want adequate staffing and fair wages NOW!

We met with the District for negotiations again today, yet we are still waiting on a response from the District to our last wage proposal. We need to show up en mass to the Board of Trustees Meeting next week to demand a fair contract proposal from the District!

RALLY for a Fair Contract!
Wednesday, November 19
PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE:
3:00 p.m.
LACCD District Office
770 Wilshire Blvd., L.A. 90017
suggestion: Take the Metro!

Our Bargaining Team went to the Board Meeting on November 5th to express our discontent with the current wage proposal from the District. Team members Marc Ledezma, Irma Lopez, Chis Ozann, Kathleen Becket, Rudy Covarrubias and Ismael Villanueva spoke to the Trustees about the impact of the increased work load, work related injuries and our invaluable contributions to the District. We also presented data on nearby college districts and highlighted that we are 17-27% lower in wages than these similar districts. We demanded a fair wage proposal and told the Board that we are all ready to do what it takes to get a fair contract.

We’re not the only ones talking about our contract proposals! Check out the article in Pierce College’s student paper!

Our next bargaining session is scheduled for November 24th.

October 27 & 29, 2014

We’ve been making some noise.

Dozens of us went to the Board of Trustees meeting earlier this month to make sure the District heard our contract proposals. We also wanted to make sure they understood why these proposals are so important for our lives and our colleges.

And yet, when we sat down with them on Monday and today to continue negotiations for our next contract, the District presented the same wage proposal they presented three months ago and made little to no concessions on our other proposals.

It’s time to make sure they understand our commitment to each other and to our common goals. They need to know that we are united and that we stand behind our Bargaining Team.

It’s time to get louder.

Here’s what our BARGAINING TEAM is asking us to do:

  1. Be sure to watch for emails and texts alerting us to show our unity on the days they’re at the bargaining table. Let’s be sure to wear our Purple T-Shirts and our “We Support Our Bargaining Team” stickers on those days.
  2. Save the date: We will go to the November 19th Board Meeting—but this time, they’ll hear some ROLLING THUNDER as we hold rallies all day leading up to that meeting to accommodate all of our schedules. Everyone should be able to join at least a portion of our day. Stay tuned for more details as the date approaches—but mark your calendars now!
  3. Please take a moment to complete this survey. High-paid college leadership in their gleaming downtown offices need to know that their hardworking employees are barely making it paycheck-to-paycheck! (Please know that your responses are anonymous.)

October 10, 2014

We made some serious noise at the October 8 Board of Trustees Meeting!

SEIU Local 99 members packed the LACCD Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday and sent a strong message to the District that we’re united for a fair contract and ready for real movement at the bargaining table—now!

We presented the Board with a booklet of stories highlighting our commitment to students and contributions to the colleges. We urged the Board to take an active role in making sure we have fair compensation, adequate supplies, access to the proper equipment, opportunities for training and advancement, and adequate staffing. We definitely made our voices heard just days before we headed back to the bargaining table today.

Our show of strength made a difference at the Bargaining Table!

Because we spoke up, the District is listening! When District Negotiators arrived to today’s meeting, they immediately caucused…seems we gave them something to think about! Today’s meeting was the first time the District responded to our proposals and they left today’s negotiations expressing their openness to further negotiations. In fact, they agreed to three more dates to move negotiations along:

Our next bargaining sessions will be:

  1. Monday, October 27
  2. Wednesday, October 29
  3. Thursday, November 13

Remember to “Purple Up! Sticker Up!” at your worksites on these dates in support of our Bargaining Team! Don’t have a shirt or stickers? Contact your Local 99 Steward or Diva Sanchez at dsanchez@seiu99.org.
