Members Overwhelmingly Ratify New Contract Agreement with LACOE

SEIU Local 99 members overwhelmingly voted to ratify the new Contract Agreement with the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE). 87% of voting members cast ballots in support.

Our Bargaining Team was victorious in obtaining language to allow members to stop having the break in service which adversely affected their step advancement due to reduction in force.  This is a HUGE WIN!  We expressed in great detail the challenges that we have been dealing with regarding Career Development.   We negotiated and increased tuition reimbursement.  Online courses are now eligible for reimbursement and/or release time.  SEIU Unit Members are now able to apply for reimbursement/release time for courses for any position or job family within LACOE based on the educational requirements set forth in job class specifications/job descriptions for such positions!

Highlights of the Contract include:

  • Article IX – 2014-2015 Salary Improvement Effective July 1, 2014, the 2014-2015 salary schedule for all active unit members shall reflect a four percent (4.0%) increase.
  • In the event that another bargaining unit receives an across-the board general salary improvement for 2014-2015 that is greater than the 4.0%, SEIU unit members shall receive the same comparable increase for the same period.
  • Longevity Stipend – we cleaned up language in this section of agreement to be more consistent with what was actually happening:

Increase in Longevity:                           From                     To:
10 years or more                             $500                     $700
15 years or more                             $800                     $1000
20 years or more                             $1500                   $1700
25 years or more                             $2000                   $2200
30 years or more                             $2500                   $2700

  •  Mileage and Child Care Expenses – we moved the language into this section of the article and increased the rate from $80 to $125.
  •  50% increase in tuition reimbursement
  • The TA includes language to correct the language for those affected by RIF and become reemployed and move to the next step appropriately.
