SEIU Local 99 President, Edward Reed, released the following statement on today’s launch of the LA Fund’s Breakfast in the Classroom program

“Breakfast in the Classroom is a great example of how parents, the school district, and labor and community groups can work together to find solutions that benefit our children, support funding for our schools, and secure good jobs.”

“Many SEIU Local 99 members are parents of students at LAUSD schools. We know children cannot learn when they are hungry. As parents and school workers, we are proud to work on a program that will help thousands more children start off their school day with a full stomach and a mind that is ready to learn.”

“In these difficult economic times when the news is more often about budget cuts and layoffs, Breakfast in the Classroom actually saves many jobs for cafeteria workers. It ensures that good jobs will stay in our communities so workers can continue to support their families and California’s economy can continue to recover.
