Who is eligible to be nominated? Any active committee member who is an SEIU Local 99 member in good standing and who has attended a minimum of three committee meetings (as documented on the sign-in sheets) of that particular committee in the previous calendar year (January-December 2016).
Do you have to be present at the January meeting to be nominated? You do not need to be present. However, if you will not be present, you must submit in writing your willingness to be nominated prior to closing of the nominations for that committee. Your letter must include the reason for your absence, (such as scheduled work, vacation, family affairs, etc.) and be delivered to the staff facilitator of that committee. Since a member can only be nominated for one (1) leadership position per committee, these letters must also clearly indicate the office for which the member accepts the nomination, and the order of preference if the member’s name is placed in nomination for more than one office.
Can a member be nominated for more than one position? A member can only be nominated for one leadership position per committee. A member may be nominated for one leadership position on different committees, but may only be elected to and serve in one position.
Can a member hold a leadership position on more than one committee? No member shall hold more than one committee leadership position.
Who can participate and vote in member committee elections? Only “Active” committee members may participate in the nomination and election process. “Active” committee members are those members who have attended a minimum of three (3) committee meetings during the previous calendar year (January-December 2016).
When is the election? Each committee will hold nominations at their scheduled January meeting and elections will be held at each committee’s scheduled February meeting.
What is the term of service? The term of committee leadership positions is for two years, and each committee will hold leadership elections every other year (in odd-numbered years).
