Bargaining to Expand Health Care Benefits Begins We Tell District: “This is about justice and fairness.”

There are currently thousands of SEIU Local 99 members without access to a quality and affordable health care plan. The District’s current plan is too expensive for many workers, and others are not even given the option of selecting an LAUSD health plan.

This not only affects health and safety on the job, but also the wellbeing of many students who are children of Local 99 members. Through an agreement made in our new contract, we’ve begun negotiations with the District to address this inequality and ensure that more members and their families are covered by the District’s health plan.

Our bargaining team met with the District on September 24 for an initial meeting to set up negotiations procedures. We met again on October 15 and let the District know that this is an issue of fairness and justice because Local 99 members are the only workers in the District without access to LAUSD’s health plan. Negotiations are ongoing. Stay tuned for more information.
