Following member comments and Executive Board discussion at the July 19, 2014, Regular Executive Board Meeting, on August 14, 2014, SEIU Local 99 conducted a recount of ballots by bargaining unit of the June 30 – July 2, 2014, LAUSD contract ratification vote. This recount tallied all votes cast for each of our four bargaining units at LAUSD (Units B, C, F and G).All SEIU Local 99 members in good standing were welcome to observe this recount. Results for each of our four units are as follows: Unit B: 699 Yes / 357 No 66% YES! Unit C: 660 Yes / 110 No 85% YES! Unit F: 487  Yes / 6 No 98% YES! Unit G: 273 Yes / 3 No 98% YES! We start talking last October!

Thousands of us came together to hold “Listening Sessions” at more than 550 schools and work sites throughout LAUSD last fall. From October 2013 to April 2014, we discussed and prioritized our goals for this next contract with the District.

We make some serious noise in May!

We show our “Purple Pride” during a week of spirited actions at our school sites throughout the District. At the end of that week, on Saturday, May 17, hundreds of us continued to show our strength at our rally in Lafayette Park to kick-off our contract bargaining campaign.

Bargaining begins in June!

The District approached us and said they were willing to address key economic issues immediately with us—including our proposals for a $15/hour minimum wage and wage increases for members earning more than $15/hr. We agreed to their offer of expedited bargaining to make the most of their openness to our proposals.

We reach a Tentative Agreement!

Our Bargaining Team recommended a YES Vote on this historic contract that makes news around the country. It’s one of the largest victories in the nationwide “Fight for $15” movement.

School-Board-Ratifies

The LAUSD School Board unanimously ratifies our Agreement!

Members of the School Board ratified the tentative agreement, calling it a justice issue.

We vote in record numbers!

Our voter participation increased by 665% over our last contract ratification. At voting sites across the city, we voted over a 3-day period.

Final-Vote

We overwhelmingly ratify our contract on July 3, 2014!

82% of us voted “Yes!” for this new strong contract. As one member put it, the new $15 minimum wage at the district will “…mean the world to me…it’s almost indescribable!”

We won a life-changing, incredible victory!

By lifting the salary floor, this is a giant first step in making sure that school jobs are good jobs. Nearly half of us are parents of children attending LAUSD schools. This establishes a living wage that will mean we can help our children with their homework instead of clocking in for a second job.

In addition to the minimum wage increase for those of us earning below $15 an hour, the agreement includes increases totaling 6.64% for all other workers.
