Have You Been Laid Off? WorkSource Centers Offer Valuable Training & Assistance

These are difficult times and SEIU Local 99 is continuing to look for opportunities to help members and their families. Last June, SEIU Local 99 joined with the City of Los Angeles’ Getting Back 2 Work Program to present a Job Training and Resource Fair for laid-off Local 99 members. Nearly 100 members attended the event and received information from WorkSource Centers on job placement, training, and re-training, including how to access thousands of dollars worth of training at no cost.

Through the WorkSource Centers, the Getting Back 2 Work Program offers: a personal assessment of your skills, resume writing and interview skills training, job or paid internship placement assistance, vocational training, on-the-job training, and supportive services including bus tokens, work clothes, tools, child care, and more.

Here’s what members who attended Local 99’s Job Training & Resource Fair had to say:

Alexandra Smolskaya2 cropped “It was encouraging to see so many people willing to help. It gives us hope that if something is not working out we can make a transition to something else. It’s good to see the City and the Union working together to get us back on our feet. I am looking forward to receiving training.” Alexandra Smolskaya
Leshun Coleman2 cropped “Sometimes we think there is really no hope and no one is watching out for us. Events like this are re-assuring. They keep us hopeful about what is coming in the future.” Leshun Coleman
Elvira De Santiago 2 web “I liked the materials I received. They explain everything you have to do to apply for unemployment benefits and job training to make a transition to a new job.”  Elvira De Santiago
