SEIU 99 Members at LAUSD Will Be Paid for Furlough Days Taken

The agreement reached with LAUSD ensures full restoration of lost work days and pay.

Thanks to our hard work last year to pass Proposition 30, we stopped an additional $6 billion in cuts to education this school year and the ten furlough days at LAUSD were rescinded. Over the past several months we have been in negotiations with the District to restore work days and pay for all members in Units B & C who took furlough days last year. We have reached an agreement with the District that was presented to the LAUSD School Board on February 12, 2013.

Our team stood strong and beat back the District’s initial plan to unilaterally restore lost pay by requiring members to replace the furlough days with vacation days. We also rejected the District’s plan to require members on A-Basis (12 months) to work on Saturdays to make up for the lost pay. Our efforts secured the best agreement possible for Local 99 members.

Highlights of the Agreement:

Pay and lost workdays will be restored for all B & C Unit members who took furloughs.

Members on B-Basis (11 months) and C-Basis (10 months) will be paid back through additional work days added to this year’s school calendar.

Members on A-Basis (12 months) will be paid promptly for the three furlough days taken before December 1, 2012. These members will not have to work Saturdays to have their pay restored. Some members may have already received this pay.

Vacation time will not be used to restore furlough day pay.

Members who signed-off to use vacation time to restore the furlough days will have the vacation days credited back to their vacation balance.

Payment for four or five furloughs will be made upon verification.

Members who took four or five furlough days before December 1, 2012 will be paid for the additional days but they must first present their request to the District with verification that they took the extra furloughs. If you took four or five furlough days in the fall of 2012, contact LAUSD at the Office of the Chief Operation Officer at 213-241-4133.

Members who retired in the fall of 2012 may be able to receive furlough restoration pay.

If you retired in the fall of 2012 from LAUSD after taking furlough days, please contact Local 99’s Member Resource Center at 213-637-0296. Local 99 will collect your information and will seek to have pay restored for eligible retired members.
