The Office of California State Board of Equalization Chairman, Jerome Horton, is offering free tax preparation help and electronic filing for SEIU Local 99 members. These services are available to members earning $51,000 annually or less (per filing). Trained/Certified volunteers will help prepare basic tax returns and help you determine if you are eligible for tax credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit.
Please bring the following required documents with you to have your tax returns prepared:
- Proof of identification, such as a valid picture ID.
- Social Security cards for you, your spouse, and dependents and/or a Social Security Number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration. If you are not eligible to get a Social Security number, you may need an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).
- Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return.
- Current year’s tax package, if you received one.
- Wage and earning statement(s): Forms W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, from all employers.
- Interest and dividend statements from banks—Forms 1099.
- A copy of last year’s Federal and State returns, if available.
- Blank Routing Numbers and Account Numbers for direct deposit of your refund, if available.
- Total paid for day care provider and the day care providers’ tax identifying number (the provider’s Social Security Number or the provider’s business Employer Identification Number).
- Landlord’s address and phone number, if you rent.
- To file taxes electronically on a married filing joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.
