Local 99 Members at Compton Unified Stand Strong & Win Big!

Local 99 Cafeteria Supervisors at Compton Unified spoke out when they learned that the District was planning on replacing scratch cooking with a “heat and serve” model. They took their concerns to the school board and led a town hall meeting to let parents and the community know how changes in food services would impact students.
School management’s next move was to issue transfer notices to all of the cafeteria supervisors.
Local 99 members were not intimidated or discouraged.  They filed a complaint with the Personnel Commission and went before the school board to speak out about what was apparent retaliation for their activism. The board heard their concerns and directed management to read the union contract and abide by it. As a result, the District withdrew all of the transfers.
