Community Representatives are vital education workers, parents, and community members. As liaisons between schools and the community, Community Representatives play a powerful and important role as problem solvers. Yet, they are at-will employees and limited to less than 4 hours of paid work per day but they often dedicate 8 or more hours to their students every day. It’s time this changed.
AB 2261 lifts parent’s voices at schools by strengthening Community Representatives, eliminating their hourly cap and turning them into classified employees. This means they can spend more time working with parents and students in schools. It also guarantees protections against unjust firings – giving parents a stronger voice and helping them foster stronger ties with more families. It’s time the state – and our school districts – give us the respect we deserve. That’s why we’re pushing to pass SB 2261.
