We fought long and hard to win health care benefits for T.A.s and others working for LAUSD…
And we won!
As you’ve probably heard by now, LAUSD T.A.s who worked 800 or more hours in one assignment last year will be eligible for 100%-employer-paid health insurance this coming year. (By now, the District should have notified you if you have the qualifying hours.)

We made important progress in improving health coverage for SEIU Local 99 members:
- We won 100% employer-paid medical, dental and vision coverage for Unit F Teacher Assistants. You will qualify for benefits if you work 800 hours or more in one assignment during the school year. This is a significant victory because the cost of healthcare for Teacher Assistants was so outrageously high that most were locked-out of coverage.
- SEIU 99 Members in Unit G (After School Program Workers, Community Representatives, School Supervision Aides) will finally be included in the District’s healthcare plan. Previously, they were completely denied District health coverage. Under our agreement, LAUSD will pay half of the cost of benefits for workers in this unit who work 1,000 hours or more in one assignment during the school year. It’s a big step forward that sets us on a path to continue to make gains for a group of dedicated school workers who have been unfairly excluded from benefits.
