Dear SEIU Local 99 Brothers and Sisters,
I wrote to you in last month to share news about changes in our Union’s leadership. Over the past several weeks I have been working hard with our Executive Board to ensure that our union continues on a strong path forward.
I am proud to announce that our Board has named two long-time dedicated members to fill officer vacancies. Tanya Walters, a Bus Driver with the Los Angeles Unified School District has been named as our Vice President and Keryl Cartee-McNeely, Chief Steward at Santa Monica Malibu Unified has been named our Secretary, pursuant to our Constitution and Bylaws Article 14, Section 1. They assumed their positions effective January 28, 2017 and will serve the remainder of the unexpired term of office through June 2018. I am excited to continue to work with them in their new leadership roles.
Our Board has also named an Elections Committee to oversee a special election to fill vacancies on the Executive Board in the following Industry Divisions: Large Public K-12 (Unit C); Large Public K-12 (Unit F); Small Public K-12 (1 delegate seat); Early Education; Retired Members; Child Care (2 delegate seats). I truly believe that as our country goes through unprecedented challenges that threaten working families, immigrants and basic freedoms, it’s more important than ever for us to stand united. Our union is taking important steps to ensure that members are leading the way to improve and protect good jobs, ensure a quality education for every student, and have a strong voice in our communities.
It’s going to take all of us, working together, to continue to move forward.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas del SEIU Local 99,
Les escribí el mes pasado para compartir noticias sobre cambios en el liderazgo de nuestra Unión. Durante las últimas semanas he estado trabajando duro con nuestra Mesa Directiva para asegurar que nuestro sindicato continúe hacia adelante en un camino fuerte.
Me siento orgulloso de anunciar que nuestra Mesa Directiva ha nombrado a dos miembros dedicados durante mucho tiempo para llenar vacantes de oficiales. Tanya Walters, conductora de autobuses del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Los Ángeles, ha sido nombrada Vicepresidenta y Keryl Cartee-McNeely, Delegada Principal en Distrito Escolar de Santa Monica Malibu ha sido nombrada nuestra Secretaria, de conformidad con nuestra Constitución y Estatutos Artículo 14, Sección 1. Asumieron sus posiciones a partir del 28 de enero del 2017 y cumplirán el resto del mandato que no haya vencido hasta junio del 2018. Estoy emocionado de seguir trabajando con ellas en sus nuevos roles de liderazgo.
Nuestra Mesa también ha nombrado un Comité de Elecciones para supervisar una elección especial para cubrir las vacantes en la Mesa Directiva en las siguientes Divisiones por Industria: Pública Grande K-12 (Unidad C); Grandes Públicos K-12 (Unidad F); Pequeño Público K-12 (1 delegado); Educación Temprana; Miembros Jubilados; Cuidado Infantil (2 delegados). Realmente creo que a medida que nuestro país atraviesa desafíos sin precedentes que amenazan a las familias trabajadoras, a los inmigrantes ya las libertades básicas, es más importante que nunca que permanezcamos unidos. Nuestro sindicato está tomando pasos importantes para asegurar que los miembros estén liderando el camino para mejorar y proteger buenos empleos, asegurar una educación de calidad para cada estudiante y tener una voz fuerte en nuestras comunidades.
Para seguir avanzando, todos tenemos que seguir trabajando juntos.
