Those of us providing early education and care have the same injury rates as construction equipment operators. At the same time, most of us don’t have access to disability insurance or sick days. While we’re ensuring the health and safety of the little ones in our care, it’s important that we ensure our own health and safety.

That’s why SEIU Local 99 offers hands-on, interactive workshops  where you can learn how to create a healthier and safer workplace for yourself and your assistants. This training was developed by SEIU Early Educators in conjunction with California Department of Public Health, Occupational Health Branch. At the end of one of our workshops, you will be able to:

  • Identify potential physical risks associated with child care (such as lifting children and holding infants, which can cause back injuries).
  • Develop solutions to control the spread of disease while using the least toxic chemicals possible.
  • Discuss how to control work-related injuries and stress. Examine different steps to protect health and safety in our day cares.

To learn more and find out when the next workshop is scheduled, please contact Melissa at (213) 387-8393, ext. 309, snoriega@seiu99.org.
