UPDATE! SEIU Local 99 Members on our Special Education Labor Management Committee met with the District and addressed concerns that an error in the District’s computer system was delaying members’ submission of Extended School Year (ESY) online summer school job applications. As a result, the District agreed to extend the deadline for Special Ed Paraprofessionals, Campus Aides and School Supervision Aides to submit ESY (Summer School) job applications to March 24, 2016. That’s our Union Strength at work!
Only current LAUSD Special Ed Paraprofessionals, Campus Aides and School Supervision Aides may apply. Job applications for Special Education Paraprofessionals and Campus Aides are only being accepted online. Click Here. To access the site, use the username and password you use to log into District email. You can edit the application online until the application deadline. School Supervision Aides should check with their Principal or immediate supervisor about summer school vacancies and the application process. The District has communicated with Local 99 that there is a shortage of School Supervision Aide and Campus Aide applicants.
The final day to submit applications is Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 5pm.
Keep in mind that the more Local 99 members who apply for ESY, the stronger message we send to the District that they need to expand summer school and invest in experienced and dedicated LAUSD employees. Assignments are also based on enrollment so be sure to remind parents that the District is requesting student applications be returned by Friday, March 18, 2016.
Here are things to keep in mind in the application and assignment process:
- You must apply to one site only. To review the list of ESY sites, review the District’s memo by clicking here.
- Extended School year is tentatively scheduled for Monday, June 27, 2016 to Friday, July 22, 2016. If you are selected to work the assignment, you must work the entire summer session.
- According to our Unit B contract, the District must notify members in writing of their summer session assignments for the Extended School Year (ESY) (Article XI, Section 7.2b). The District must follow a clear process per our contract on ESY assignments and members must receive timely written notification of their assignments.
- According to our Union Contract, Special Education Paraprofessionals who are assigned to a student during the regular school year who is attending ESY, must be offered the ESY assignment with that student if they apply to work the summer session. Be sure to list the name of the student(s) in your application. Also, make sure Welligent (formerly known as the matrix) reflects your student assignment. Ask your administrator to make sure that Welligent is up-to-date.
