Extremists in Congress tried to take away affordable healthcare from 8 million people with a bogus lawsuit, King v. Burwell, but on June 25 the Supreme Court handed down their decision: NO.
The Court’s ruling is great news for the 16+ million Americans who have quality, affordable insurance today because of the healthcare law. And thanks to Obamacare, more Americans have health coverage than any time on record, people can no longer be dropped by an insurance company because of a pre-existing condition like asthma or high blood pressure, women can no longer be charged more for their coverage and 137 million people are benefiting from preventive care.
SEIU California released the following statement from Laphonza Butler, President of SEIU California and SEIU United Long Term Care Workers, on the Supreme Court decision:
“Today’s decisive Supreme Court action upholding the Affordable Care Act is welcome news for California’s healthcare system and the millions of Californians who have already gained access to affordable care under the law. Make no mistake, the attack on subsidies for the federal exchange was an attack aimed at every single one of these Californians, because it aimed to undermine the entire structure of healthcare reform.
“A recent graduate who has coverage while looking for work, an independent businesswoman who can now get coverage despite having survived breast cancer, and a working family for whom healthcare is now within reach for every single member of the household: these are the faces of healthcare reform, and each one can breathe easier now that this legal attack has been defeated.”
