On April 14, the LAUSD School Board voted to approve an agreement on health care benefits which protects Local 99 members’ existing coverage with NO increase in our costs. The agreement extends our current benefits through December 2017, with a possible extension through 2018. It was negotiated by the Health Benefits Committee which includes all eight unions at LAUSD, including Local 99, teachers, administrators, school police and others. Under this agreement, all of our current benefits are maintained, including health coverage for our family members and retired members.
It’s just the first step. Now we need to move forward together to fight for coverage for more Local 99 members. There are currently thousands of Local 99 members who are not eligible for benefits. We’ve got to change that. Under our recent contract, we established a Health Care Committee that is continuing to negotiate with the District to expand benefits to more Local 99 members.
