VOTE TUESDAY, MAY 16
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.Don’t know where to vote? |
Dear SEIU Local 99 Member,
I’m writing to remind my SEIU Local 99 sisters and brothers to VOTE Tuesday, May 16 if you live in LAUSD School Board Districts 4 (Hollywood and West L.A.) and 6 (San Fernando Valley). See maps here.
This election gives us an opportunity to choose leaders who will impact the schools in our neighborhoods. Even if you don’t live in these districts, every SEIU Local 99 member can help make sure that the candidates we’ve endorsed win these important seats: Be sure to tell any co-workers, family and friends to vote if they live in these districts.
There is so much riding on this election for LAUSD School Board. The stakes could not be higher:
- Our votes really matter at a time like this with the very real threat of massive federal budget cuts to public education. This would undo all the work we’ve done to rebuild our schools since the cuts and layoffs of the Great Recession. We need School Board candidates who will join our fight to make sure schools are fully staffed to provide the learning environment children need.
- Those of us who work for LAUSD are in the middle of negotiating our next contract with the District. The School Board Members we elect will vote on the final agreement. We need people on the school board who value the work of classified school employees.
The people we elect at every level of government impact the quality of our schools and our jobs, and that’s certainly true of School Board Members. As education workers, making sure we elect candidates who value the work that we do is one of the most valuable ways to flex our united political power!
In Unity,
Conrado Guerrero
President, SEIU Local 99
LAUSD Building Engineer
