SEIU 99 Statement on LAUSD Resolution: “In the Pursuit of Life, Liberty and Happiness”

SEIU Local 99 Executive Director Max Arias issued the following statement on the adoption of LAUSD School Board Resolution: “In the Pursuit of Life, Liberty and Happiness”

On behalf of the cafeteria workers, custodians, special education assistants, bus drivers and others who help educate and care for our children, I would like to thank LAUSD Board President Steve Zimmer and Board Member Monica Garcia for bringing  forward the resolution: In the Pursuit of Life, Liberty, and Happiness: Embracing Education as a Pillar to Democratic Progress. By adopting this resolution, the School Board sends a strong message of support and reassurance to our students, our families, and our communities.

As our nation enters into a time of unparalleled uncertainty, it is critical that our schools continue to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for all.  Children cannot learn when they are scared or anxious or uncertain about their family’s future. SEIU Local 99 is proud to partner with LAUSD in creating the safe and open spaces our children need to learn and grow. We commit to signing the letter to the President-elect referenced in the resolution and stand at the ready to ensure all students and their families are guaranteed their unalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
