85% of the voters we spoke with said “YES! I’ll support Prop. 55!”
SEIU Local 99 members knocked on doors and called voters at our Yes on 55 Election Kickoff on Saturday, September 10th. These were our first conversations with voters and they gave overwhelming support—it’s a really good sign!
Join us as we continue our conversations with voters.
We started the morning out hearing from leaders at our neighborhood schools and community colleges. As each one spoke, it became clear that they agree with us: voters must pass Prop. 55 in November, or we face massive and devastating cuts again.
“Job loss in our schools hurt kids,” said LAUSD School Board President Steve Zimmer. | “We won’t stand for going backward,” said LAUSD School Board Member Mónica Garcia. |
After hearing from these leaders, we set out to speak with voters. Together, we reached 451 voters in just a few hours.

“It was great to be a part of our union’s voter outreach efforts. I had never done that before and I enjoyed it,” said Mario.
“I’m getting involved this year to make sure [we are] investing in all our children,” said Amelia.
