In addition to 20 million Americans gaining health insurance coverage, many for the first time, there are a number of major accomplishments made possible as a result of the law:
- The number of African Americans without health insurance has been cut in half and the uninsured rate for Latinos has been reduced by 25 percent.
- 6.1 million young adults have gained coverage because they have the option to remain on a parent’s plan.
- As many as 129 million Americans have security knowing they won’t be dropped or pay more because they have some type of pre-existing condition.
- More than 137 million women and men can seek preventive services such as cancer screening, contraception, immunizations and mammograms at no cost.
