We say “No Way!” to forced DRDP paperwork!

Herminia_Garcia"All this paperwork that the Network was supposed to be completing was taking my time away from the children and parents I serve, not to mention my own family. We knew that making us complete their paperwork was not right."

Herminia Garcia, a Child Care Provider in Carson

California's Department of Education (CDE) requires Network staff to complete regular child assessments called "DRDP"s (Desired Results Developmental Profile). But when Children's Institute began demanding that providers complete these 56 observations per child, the providers decided to take action. They told CDE that this was in violation of CDE requirements.

And CDE agreed!
Officials there followed up with Children's Institute to ensure that providers were not the ones doing the DRDPs. Providers working with Children's Institute also requested a meeting with the Children's Institute Executive Director and staff to make sure this doesn't continue.

We were successful!
Since November, providers are no longer doing DRDPs.

This was possible because we came together to keep the network in our area accountable. This was a great example that when we're fearless and work together, we can make positive changes for our lives and small businesses.
