November 20th marks the anniversary of President Obama’s executive action on immigration – a historic immigration action that included the expansion of DACA and the making of the Deferred Action for Parents (DAPA), a new initiative that would give 5 million undocumented parents of U.S.
citizen children a chance to remain in the country and apply for a work permit.
One year after President Obama’s historic immigration action, DAPA is blocked. Now, the future of DAPA and real immigration reform is in our hands – our vote will determine the next president who must defend DAPA and champion immigration reform with a path to citizenship.
Every single Republican presidential candidate has campaigned on the promise that they would shut down DAPA and expanded DACA. That’s simply unacceptable.
Each day DAPA and expanded DACA remain in limbo, our country not only fails to live up to its moral principles, but also to the economic promises it seeks to fulfill for families. The deferred action initiatives would create more jobs and opportunities, increase our GDP, and strengthen all families.
Today we mark one year of continuous attacks against immigrant families, instead of celebrating millions of parents and young immigrants who could have been working lawfully, without the fear of being separated from their families. Our fight is far from over. We honor this anniversary with
the promise to vote.
