As we type this, California Legislators and the Governor are finalizing next year’s budget!
Let’s make sure they don’t forget child care!
HERE’S WHAT WE WANT TO SEE IN THE BUDGET:
- We want more slots for the one million California children who are locked out of qualify affordable child care.
- We want collective bargaining rights that will allow us to sit down and negotiate even more improvements to our state’s broken child care system.
HERE’S WHERE WE’RE AT:
- We have Sacramento’s attention like we’ve never had it before. We must not waste this moment!
- Both the Assembly and the State Senate included more spaces for children and a voice for providers (collective bargaining rights) in their budget proposal to the Governor.
- And we don’t just have elected leaders’ attention. Public support is strong for more investment in child care and there’s been a lot of positive press. This is just some of the press we received from our recent day of action at the capitol.
HERE’S WHAT WE CAN DO ABOUT IT:
CALL GOVERNOR BROWN TODAY!(916) 445-2841Here’s a sample script: Good afternoon. My name is your name. I’m a child care provider in name of city. I care for the children of # of parents you serve moms and dads working as those parents’ job titles. I’m calling to ask the governor to invest in child care for the more than one million children in California who don’t have access to a program like mine. Please tell the governor that providers like me want collective bargaining rights to strengthen California’s child care system. Please include these things in this year’s budget. Thank you. |
For child care, some brave moms, grandmas and aunties decided to take some very serious steps and got arrested last week.
We couldn’t all be there, but we can ALL do
our part by making a phone call today
—AND—
making sure ALL our client families
also call for child care!
