Join the Fast for Children, Send a Message of Solidarity

Seven young people are fasting all week…

…in support of immigrant children and their families fleeing violence and poverty in Central America. Fasters are calling for the children and their families to be treated with compassion and are asking Congress and the President to grant them refugee status.

Join them in support. Art, storytelling and performances nightly Monday, July 21, through Thursday, July 24 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at ?115 Paseo de la Plaza (near historic Olvera Street) in Los Angeles.

Read firsthand experiences of Local 99 interns, Odilia Mendez and Chrystal Blow, who went to visit the fasters on Tuesday!

They journey to our country fleeing harrowing violence and heartbreaking poverty. They are the children of Central America and each year thousands risk their lives to make the American dream a reality. Sadly, many that survive the perilous journey to the United States will be held in sub-human conditions at detention centers before being sent back to the countries they were forced to flee.

Faith, immigrant rights and labor leaders have announced they will be fasting every day and night in front of the Capitol’s doorstep and in locations across the country to send a clear and visible message to Congress: we will not wait for reform any longer.

Fasters will be joined nationwide by groups and activists who are prepared to make sacrifices for the passage of immigration reform with a path to citizenship. Can we count on you to stand with them?

Help amplify the fasters’ call on the conscience of Congress to schedule a vote and end the moral crisis facing 11 million aspiring Americans by joining the campaign and sending a message of solidarity and encouragement to the fasters.
