Following member comments and Executive Board discussion at the July 19, 2014, Regular Executive Board Meeting, on August 14, 2014, SEIU Local 99 conducted a recount of ballots by bargaining unit of the June 30 – July 2, 2014, LAUSD contract ratification vote. This recount tallied all votes cast for each of our four bargaining units at LAUSD (Units B, C, F and G).All SEIU Local 99 members in good standing were welcome to observe this recount. Results for each of our four units are as follows: Unit B: 699 Yes / 357 No 66% YES! Unit C: 660 Yes / 110 No 85% YES! Unit F: 487 Yes / 6 No 98% YES! Unit G: 273 Yes / 3 No 98% YES! We won a life-changing, incredible victory!
By lifting the salary floor, this is a giant first step in making sure that school jobs are good jobs. Nearly half of us are parents of children attending LAUSD schools. This establishes a living wage that will mean we can help our children with their homework instead of clocking in for a second job.
In addition to the minimum wage increase for those of us earning below $15 an hour, the agreement includes increases totaling 6.64% for all other workers.
