contract ratification board mtg 3-25-2014 - for web

On March 21, 2014, SEIU Local 99 members working for the Compton Unified School District voted “yes” nearly unanimously (96%) on our new contract. The Compton School Board unanimously ratified our contract on March 26, 2014.

Many Compton Local 99 members are also parents of children in our schools. By strengthening our contract, we help to protect services that are critical to student learning and ensure that school jobs are good jobs.

Here are some highlights:

  • We won an off-schedule payment for all SEIU Local 99 members retroactive to January 1, 2014, through December 31, 2014.
  • We also gained language that strengthens our union and gives us more power in future negotiations as we advocate for quality schools and good jobs.
  • This contract includes an agreement to discuss retraining when injuries prevent us from continuing in our positions.
  • The District also agreed to a one-time, $2,000-per-member increase of its contribution to our benefits for the 2013–2014 school year.

Our Bargaining Team will immediately continue negotiations for items not concluded in this contract, including wage increases. This contract is just the beginning of moving Compton in the right direction. We made some progress with our unity and our actions—let’s continue our efforts to ensure quality schools and better lives for our children, our families, and our communities.
