In October 2013, Governor Brown signed Assembly Bill 274, a bill which was written, in part, because we spoke up!
Authored by Assemblywoman Susan A. Bonilla (D-Concord), AB 274 brings California’s child care system into the 21st Century by streamlining many of the current bureaucratic processes we go through on a daily basis.
AB 274 will:
- Simplify attendance sheets by allowing monthly verification of care, instead of daily. This will minimize the issues many of us have had over time with parent signatures and color of ink;
- Allow agencies* to be paid via direct deposit; and
- Allow us to store family case files electronically, instead of five years of paper copies.
We were excited to support AB 274 and see this as one step in improving California’s child care system. Join us as we continue to fight for a voice in our industry!
* Although Assemblymember Bonilla’s office uses the terms “provider” and “agency” interchangeably, this law applies only to agencies. We will continue to advocate for direct deposit for all family child care providers.
