The first week of school…

LAUSD Superintendent Deasy Does Cafeteria Duty at Torres High School

WHAT: As the new school year kicks-off, LAUSD Superintendent John Deasy will put on a hairnet and apron to see firsthand what it’s like working in an LAUSD school cafeteria and how cafeteria workers play an essential role in student learning. He will work the actual morning shift with a “lunch lady” as she prepares to help feed hundreds of students at Esteban Torres High School.

WHY: Cafeteria Workers, along with School Bus Drivers, Custodians, Classroom Assistants, Playground Supervisors, and other caring school workers provide services that support students both inside and outside the classroom. By inviting the Superintendent to “walk in the shoes” of a cafeteria worker, school workers will highlight how the entire school community contributes to a child’s academic success and will stress the need to secure funding for quality student services.
