We are currently seeking SEIU Local 99 members to help empower workers in education and child care industries by joining our efforts to help them organize their union with SEIU Local 99.
As a Member Organizer, you will identify, recruit, and empower leaders who are working to form their union with us and work with them to become active members of our union. Most of this work will be done through house visits.
This position requires long and varied hours, including early morning, evening, and weekend work as necessary. This is a temporary position lasting up to four months during which you will be “lost timed” from your current job and return once the four months are up. You will be a salaried worker and receive the equivalent of your current hourly wage for up to eight hours per day. Cell phone and mileage will be reimbursed.

- Have good judgment, including the ability to discern and focus on priorities.
- Have the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- The ability to speak languages used by many of these workers is highly valued.
- Must have a positive attitude.
Duties include:
- Conduct house visits and house meetings
- Sign workers up to join SEIU Local 99
- Identify, test, and develop workers into leaders
- Execute a plan to cover assigned geographical area
- Plan actions and meetings
- Recruit workers to events and meetings
Minimum requirements:
- Must currently be a shop steward or commit to become one once this project is complete
- Strong commitment to social and economic justice of all working people
- Excellent communication skills
- Drive, own and/or lease a vehicle, maintain a valid California driver’s license and car insurance
