In June, we voted to protect student services and save thousands of jobs.
SEIU Local 99 members in LAUSD Units B & C voted to approve ten furlough days in the 2012-13 school year.
Our agreement with the District calls for ten furlough days. The District will make every effort to ensure that the furlough days are taken one per month starting in July 2012 and concluding by the end of June 2013.

Our vote demonstrates the selfless commitment of SEIU Local 99 members to stand united for each other and for the students we serve every day. The ten furloughs, along with other job and hour restorations, saved over 6,000 jobs and restored early education, transportation, maintenance, nutrition, and other vital programs and student services.
If you have any questions regarding furlough days and schedules, please call the SEIU Local 99 Member Resource Center at (213) 637-0296.
But there is still work to do to stop additional cuts next school year! The ten furlough days will help address the District’s current deficit. However, if Proposition 30, Governor Brown’s tax revenue initiative, is not approved by voters in November, the state education budget will be cut by another $5.5 billion and LAUSD will be forced to make more cuts. We can stop additional cuts by making sure the Governor’s revenue initiative passes in November.
Help pass Proposition 30!
Talk to your co-workers, family, and friends about Governor Brown’s Schools & Safety Protection Act. This revenue initiative will be on our November 6 ballot. Let everyone know that we’ve got to vote for more revenue to save our schools and protect good jobs. The Governor’s initiative will raise income taxes for the richest Californians and temporarily increase the sales tax by ¼ of a cent. If voters approve this initiative on November 6, 2012, schools will see up to $9 billion in new funds.
Help STOP Proposition 32!
In addition to securing revenue, we will fight to make sure the voices of the 99% are heard. Vote NO on Proposition 32 on the November 6th ballot. Prop. 32 targets working families, is deceptive, and it silences our voices. If voters fail to stop this proposition, the same people behind Prop. 32 will come after our bargaining rights in 2014 and we won’t be able to fight back.
