Stop Special Exemptions for the Rich!
Stop the One-Two Punch on Working Families!
If Prop. 32 passes, we’ll have no ability to fight back when corporations come after us in 2014 to take away our collective bargaining rights! |
When voters go to the polls in November, it’s important that they understand this deceptive ballot initiative designed to silence working families.
IT TARGETS WORKING FAMILIES.
Every decision about our jobs and the services we provide is made by the people we elect into office. Proposition 32 would take away our voice in politics to fight for better wages, good jobs, and funding for our schools and programs.
Proposition 32 prohibits unions from making ANY contributions to political candidates—FOREVER! Backers of this proposition claim it’s “fair” because the same ban applies to corporations—BUT it’s full of exemptions. Corporations and billionaire businessmen would still be able to contribute directly to candidates.
IT’S DECEPTIVE.
Proposition 32 claims to prohibit corporations AND unions from using payroll deductions for politics. But it’s unions that collect political contributions through payroll deductions. Corporations don’t use payroll deduction for politics. They use their massive profits. Backers of this proposition claim that it will prevent union dues from being used for politics. But laws already exist that prohibit union dues from being used for political candidates. And union members’ political contributions are already voluntary.
IT SILENCES OUR VOICES.
We’ve won a lot through politics: the right to negotiate our contract, wages, health care benefits, grievance process, sick leave, vacation, and more! If Proposition 32 passes, we stand to lose all of the things we’ve won through our political strength.
IT’S THE FIRST BLOW…
If corporations land the first punch by passing Proposition 32, they’ll come after us in 2014 with a second blow to eliminate collective bargaining, destroy pensions, push for greater budget cuts, and more! And we’ll have no ability to fight back!
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
