Meet Scott Washburn, Local 99’s Interim Executive Director

Scott Washburn, enthusiastically supported by our union’s Executive Board, now serves as SEIU Local 99’s Interim Executive Director as of July 19, 2014.

Scott has been working in the union movement since 1971 when he joined the United Farm Workers led by Cesar Chavez. He spent ten years with the UFW where he learned the craft of organizing and building unions.

In 1981 he started with SEIU in Northern California and has worked with most of the California SEIU locals. Along the way he has also led field campaigns for mayoral, gubernatorial and other candidates in California.

In 2004 he moved to Arizona to help start the Southwest Region of SEIU and to start a Local in Arizona.

In 2012 he returned to California to lead Good Jobs L.A., fighting for living wage jobs as the city began its recovery from the Great Recession.

Scott lives in Arizona with his wife Nancy and has six grown children and five grandchildren.
