SEIU Members Ready to Stand with Gov.  to Defend California’s Values of Inclusion and Opportunity

California—SEIU California released the following statement from President Laphonza Butler on Governor Jerry Brown’s 2017 State of the State Address:

Governor Brown delivered exactly the right message at the right time for California and our nation. His choice of a son of California immigrants, Xavier Becerra, to advance justice in California exemplifies the strength that comes from the diversity of our state.

SEIU members in California stand by Governor Brown, ready to defend our state’s values of inclusion and opportunity.  We led California to adopt a historic minimum wage increase, create the nation’s strongest and most inclusive healthcare coverage, and build opportunities for immigrants and their children.

Even as we resist attempts to roll back our progress, we are creating new opportunities to build the California dream: we plan to strengthen workers’ rights, open doors at every level of education from child care to college, keep improving the care we give to seniors and people with disabilities, and take steps every year to advance racial, environmental, immigrant, and economic justice here in California.  That is the way we will live up to our state’s boundless potential.
