SEIU Local 99 Executive Director, Bill A. Lloyd, released the following statement upon today’s announcement by LAUSD Superintendent John Deasy that an independent commission will be created to investigate allegations of abuse within the district

“Our schools should be a safe harbor for our children and families, not a place of fear and abuse.”

“We commend Superintendent Deasy for his leadership today in creating this independent commission.”

“It is our hope that this commission becomes an aggressive vehicle to help seek justice for victims of these horrible acts and gives strength to those that find it painfully difficult to come forward.”

“While we believe that anyone accused of these crimes should be granted their right to due process, as parents, grandparents and workers who make serving our children our life’s work, we strongly believe that anyone found guilty of these horrible crimes should be punished to the full extent of the law.”
